On the north wall of the chancel hangs a painting depicting Jesus on his way to Calvary with his cross. The painting is painted in oil on wood and signed B 1563 Feb. 18, which means that it is a work by the Dutch Renaissance master Joachim Bueckelaer from 1563.

The cross bearer is embedded in a crowd of people, in the foreground market people with their baskets.

The painting is believed to have come to Sweden as a spoil of war during the Thirty Years' War and first belonged to Queen Christina's painting collection. It then seems to have come into the possession of the Leijel family.

When it was donated to Älvkarleby Church by members of this family, it was provided with a pedestal and crown of an epitaphic nature. This is done in the Baroque style and is said to date from the first years of the 18th century. The epitaph commemorates the memory of David Leijel the elder. (d. 1676) and his wife Catharina Honnon (d. 1670). David Leijel was one of the founders of Älvkarleö mill and rests with his wife in the tomb choir under the choir floor.
